Hardiness Zones: 4 5 6 7 8 9 Description: One of a group of small growing, late-blooming magnolias that are less subject to late frost damage developed by the U.S. National Arboretum. Of the group – this one is our favorite because of its large (6 inch), deep fuchsia colored (almost maroon), tulip-like flowers that emerge from the elegant long, slender buds. In most situations 'Susan' is spicily fragrant.
'Susan' is profuse and long blooming, almost always with summer re-bloom. It will mature to bushy, erect growing, round-topped, multi-stemmed shrubs only 12 feet tall – neat and egg shaped. Excellent for screening, as a garden accent and in small clusters. It is especially useful in the foundation planting where an accent is needed, most frequently at the corner of a house.
