Common Name: Summersweet, Sweet Pepperbush

Description: Neat, upright deciduous shrubs that bloom freely, with very fragrant, fluffy white, bottle-brush spikes, for 4 to 6 weeks in summer. Dark brown seed pods, resembling peppercorns, remain until spring. Lustrous, leathery, deep green leaves turn bright yellow for several weeks in the fall. Spreads slowly by underground stems. Grows in sun or shade in moist acid soil. Resents summer drought and, in zones 4-6, sites exposed to winter winds. One of the few summer-flowering shrubs that flower in the shade. Excellent for naturalizing. Ht. 72-96". From 3 gallon pots.
