Description: Best dwarf read-leaved barberry we have encountered--much superior to Crimson Pygmy, the form usually planted. Velvety reddish purple foliage holds its color through summer, changing to blackish red in autumn before defoliating for winter. Especially handsome planted en masse combined with gold or blue evergreens. Unusually thrifty grower; yet remains very compact, maturing at only 18" tall x 30" wide. Tolerates half shade; however best summer color is achieved in full sun. Well-drained soil is a requirement; very drought tolerant once established. From 2 gallon pots. Rated as Deer-Resistant.
