Lilium Casablanca
A Dramatic and Fragrant Lilium
The Lilium – one of the most impressive and sought after
perennials around. Many Lilium are delicate and fragile, but certain
Lilium hybrids are durable, permanent and easy to grow. You can easily
add height and drama to any part of your garden just by adding a few
Lilium. They also make excellent cut flowers that will impress
everyone when added to flower arrangements or used solo as a
beautiful accent.
Casablanca is one of Carroll Gardens’ most durable and
fragrant lilium—a true perennial that will return and increase year
after year. This highly versatile garden gems adds exotic beauty to
the perennial border, the shrub border and flower drifts. Of all the
many fine lilium at Carroll Gardens, Casablanca has stood the test
of time and is sure to become favorites in your garden. This Lilium is
not to be confused with cheap “naturalizing oriental Lilium mixes”
that are the by-products of greenhouse cut flower production and are
made up of varieties that rarely establish as outdoor garden lilium.
Blooms that Will Stop Everyone!
The
Lilium Casablanca produces one of the largest blooms among all the
lilies.
Each bulb will average 6 to 8 thick,
pure white flowers that are richly fragrant and long lasting. Growing up to 10
inches, no one will be able to walk by one of these impressive blooms without
stopping to admire its beauty or get lost in the wonderful scent. Many Lilium
experts call Casablanca the “perfect white Lilium.” Expect the plant to
grow up to 48 inches tall, blooming in mid to late summer. The
Casablanca is
a vigorous grower that will return year after year.
Planting and Care
Lilium Casablanca from Carroll Gardens is extremely hardy
and vigorous. Plant it in groups of at least three for the
most stunning display in your garden!
- For best results plant in spring. Early fall planting, while
not ideal, is also satisfactory.

hottest sun in the south.
- Does best with shade at the base. This can easily be
accomplished by planting amongst shorter perennials.
- Plant 8 inches deep and 6 inches apart in well-drained soil,
to which compost has been added. The soil should be slightly
acidic.
Water regularly until established.
- Fertilize with
Flower-Tone at planting, and again in early spring and late
fall. During the season, a monthly application of soluble
seaweed fertilizer, such as
SeaMate, will increase the quantity and size of the blooms.
- Hardy in zones 5-9
- When cutting blooms, remove as little of the stem as
possible to allow maximum food storage for next year’s blooms.
